All About Balcom Fantroy

Hey there, it's Balcom here.... I've put this page together so that you can get to know a bit more about me, my journey, my travels, and what you can expect to see here on my personal blog.

The purpose behind this blog is for me to share what i'm currently experiencing on my journey, with you.  This will include anything from marketing tips, cool travel photos and stories, and for the most part any experiences I deem "cool" and fit for this blog.

Aside from that, you'll also learn about different projects and organizations i'm involved in.  Hopefully the experiences posted here will be beneficial to you, and will be applicable in your own business, or life.

This site doesnt get updated very often, as I generally only write something when I have something to say, however I hope the content I do post here you find informative, or at least entertaining :-).

So what about Balcom?

I am first and foremost a digital marketer that specializes in Ecommerce, SEO, and creating conversion focused websites. EcommHacks is what I’m best known for. I’m an Ohio native (#BIFC) with a burning desire to become a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu jedi (more on that later).

My Foray Across The Interwebs

In 2007 I started out by building my first website. While the experience was fun, the site looked like it was developed by an artistic 6 year old with a passion for the abstract. As crazy as it looked however, that site is one of my proudest accomplishments.

Prior to creating that website, my primary focus for years had been music. I was determined to be the next super producer, with a lineup of hit records rivaling the likes of Teddy Riley and Timbaland (shame on you if you don’t know these names). Mind you, I had absolutely ZERO experience with music outside of having a few friends who played for the Cleveland Orchestra.

I had no formal training in music theory, and I didn’t know how to read music, which made getting my start musically a difficult one. Like most people in my predicament, I just mashed my fingers against the keyboard until something came out that sounded good, and damnit I ran with it.

As time passed by, my dreams of becoming the next Dr. Dre were fading. While I continued to improve musically, my interest began to shift when I saw my first UFC event. That event introduced me to who at the time was the closest thing to a real life Superman. That mans name was Royce Gracie. You see, Royce Gracie came from a family that at the time had a singular purpose, and that was to prove that their family had the best, most effective brand of self-defense.

They claimed that their brand of Jiu Jitsu was second to none, and they were willing to fight anyone to prove it. I’ve heard claims like this before, but what made this claim different is that the Gracie family hosted a bare knuckled, no holds barred, no rules, no weight classes tournament, and they would be enlisting one of their fighters (Royce Gracie) to prove their claim to the world. Well, to make a long, and very bloody story short, Royce Gracie had won the event, and convinced me that I needed to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

After finding a place to learn such a magnificent art, I was introduced to the person that is largely responsible for my career in commerce and digital marketing. With the experience that I had gained previously from building websites, this person and I went into several joint ventures, that not only included handling the day & day of running a brick & mortar store, but also developing web properties around it. This was my start in the world of Ecommerce.

My Passions & Personal Interests

Over the years, my passions have not changed much. I still enjoy creating music (I actually went and learned how to read music), I’m still an avid Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioner (10 years now), and I’m still madly in love with creating profitable websites.

My goal is, and has always been to create a lifestyle that will give me and my family the freedom to enjoy everything that life has to offer.
